Fun ways to Enjoy Soweto Tour

Quick story time: Once upon a time a group of white people found themselves lost and did not know which direction to take and they asked each other SO WHERE TO?????So some people say that is how the name Soweto came about, you get it right so-we-to😉😊. However, according to the textbook, Soweto means Southern Western Townships. So if you ever find yourself in South Africa and you are asking yourself, So where to ???? I say go to Soweto.

As a tour guide, I would tell you one of the busiest tours we do on a daily basis is the Soweto tour. Clearly, tourists want to see Soweto who wouldn’t though? Soweto is the largest township in South Africa with a population of over a million people. Soweto carries a lot of beautiful and painful memories, once home to heroes and heroines like Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela, Albertina Sisulu, Lilian Ngoyi, Walter Sisulu, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, James Mpanza among others. Despite the era of apartheid today Soweto is one of the most vibrant townships with a contrasting lifestyle with mansions and overcrowded informal settlements to hostels. It’s a township the is super-rich of culturally diverse.

So if you are planning on doing a Soweto tour let’s talk about different ways to enjoy a Soweto tour just in case you are not so sure what is the best way. I think there is pretty much a lot of ways to enjoy the Soweto tour for different personalities.

GROUP TOURS

So I do Soweto group tours on a regular basis, almost every second day. Do I love group tours? of course I do with my personality I feel like I fit in very well in a group tour. If you would like to spend the whole day with other tourists picked up from different locations and enjoy a tour together then a group tour is for you. However I can tell you this before you decide to jump on a group tour my group tours are super fun, very interactive, we share our stories our history. I believe in educative and informative tours but at the same time they don’t have to be boring, serious and uptight, and being in a group tour it makes it even more fun, the more the merrier right? I believe everyone and every country has a story to tell and being on a group tour we get to share our stories. Really group tours are my ultimate favourite we get to laugh, educate each other and if its a full day tour we have lunch together at the same table. To me, nothing better than a group of strangers (tourists) having lunch together, tell me that’s, not a fun tour?

BICYCLE TOURS

So I don’t know how to ride a bicycle and I can’t say bicycle tours are my favourite because I have never had one before, but I definitely wish I could cycle I would love to do a bicycle tour. I think this is a really great way to do a tour. You get to be up-close and personal with the locals, ride through the back routes of the township. If you know how to cycle and you are not scared of cycling through the township with a tour guide really try booking a bicycle tour. Below is a link to tour operators who offer bicycle tours in Soweto.

PRIVATE TOURS

Private tours are exclusive to individuals, couples, family, friends. Unlike group tours, private tours are exclusively for you alone without being mixed with other tourists. I do private tours on a regular basis and they are as much fun and informative as any other tours.

SIGHT SEEING RED BUS (hop on & hop off)

Now, this is another fun, educational, exciting way to explore the township. The bus allows you to hop on and hop off as you wish and you can always hop into another bus. This open-top bus is really a great way to go sightseeing. What I love about the sightseeing bus is it has an onboard commentary in different languages among them Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese, German, French.

TUK TUK TOURS

Soweto Tuk-Tuk Tour

Another fun and interactive township experience that takes you through the back streets of Soweto as well as the historical sites in Soweto. A few weeks ago I had a chance to pass through Lebo’s and I have to say I loved everything they offer from the food to the guides the vibe at Lebo’s is just amazing. My clients I was picking up after their tuk-tuk tour only had the best to say about the tuk-tuk tour.

So there you have it before you book your Soweto tour I hope this post will help you choose the right tour that you can enjoy according to your personality. Honestly, I have come across a tourist who would find themselves in a group tour and they would hate every minute of it because they didn’t know they would be mixed with a bunch of other people. So my advice when you book please find out exactly the kind of tour you would enjoy.

  2. Almost all of whatever you articulate is supprisingly precise and that makes me wonder why I had not looked at this with this light previously. This piece really did switch the light on for me as far as this specific issue goes. But there is actually just one point I am not too comfortable with so while I try to reconcile that with the central idea of your issue, allow me see just what all the rest of the readers have to point out.Nicely done.
